Is there an API or an MCP server?
Updated
Short answer
Yes. StoryShort has a REST API and an MCP server with 24 tools. You can make, export and publish videos from your code, or from AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT. Any account can create an API key. Videos use credits, which come with a paid plan.
API
- Base URL: https://api.storyshort.ai
- API key: create one in Settings, then API. Keys start with
ss_. - What you can do: list your connected accounts, create videos, estimate the credit cost, export, and publish to your accounts.
The full reference is on the API docs page.
MCP server
The MCP server lets AI assistants use StoryShort for you. It has 24 tools: create videos, pick voices and caption styles, generate clips and images, export and publish.
- Server URL: https://api.storyshort.ai/mcp
- Claude Code: run
claude mcp add storyshort --transport http https://api.storyshort.ai/mcp - Claude and ChatGPT: add a custom connector with the server URL. You sign in to StoryShort to allow access.
You can remove an assistant's access at any time in Settings, then API. More details on the MCP page.
Costs
API and MCP videos use the same credits as the app. Any account can estimate a cost. Making a video needs credits, and exporting it needs a paid plan.
